Wrecked on I17
Saturday afternoon my wife and I were on the way to dinner heading north on I17 between Northern and Dunlop.
I was in the right hand lane when a car to my right in the exit lane drifted over in front of me. I swerved to avoid hitting him and the back end came around. The car behind me hit me in the left side at the rear tire. The left rear wheel broke off and the suspension was broken. I continued around and hit the wall on the HOV lane side. The left front fender and the hood are the only panels not dented. Except for a few bruises and soreness we are both OK. I am going to the lot tomorrow and take some pictures and will post them.

I'm really sad to hear about your accident! But, I'm glad you two are (relatively) unscathed & OK. Is your car going to be totaled or can the damage be successfully repaired? If not, I heard a rumor that Silverstone was coming out of retirement in '03...

Dick,
Sorry about the damage, but I am glad that you two weren't hurt. Did the guy who caused the accident stop, or did you get his license number?
Give Maryann our best wishes!

Here are some pics. The insurance is coming Monday. They towed the car to Showcase collision shop. The guy who caused it kept going, we think he was drunk. The guy who hit me had no insurance.

Whoa!!! First off I am THRILLED, ECSTATIC, JUMPING UP AND DOWN WITH GLEE that you were not hurt! That sounds like an ugly accident.
Second, I think it stinks that the guy took off that caused it and the other person has no insurance. In Nevada they take away your license if you don't have insurance. The DMW ties in with the insurance companies' records to verify insurance at all times. Arizona needs to start doing the same thing.
The good news is that if you were hit from behind and file the claim it still won't go against you and your insurance company should subrogate against the individual that caused the damage. They were following too close and hit you. You'll have to pay your deductible, but the insurance company should hopefully be able to get that money back for you.
The shots are pretty scary, but I think it says a lot that a car this size can survive something so ugly. I worked with Jay Santomeno (sp?) the Asst Mgr at Showcase Collision. He is a good guy, he'll make sure your car is back to new if it is not totalled.
Take care, be well and I'll see you out on the road with us again soon!
