Thumbs up What are your thoughts on this?

What do you think would happen to the driving feel after adding these mods to the S?

-3.90 Gears
-Lightweight Flywheel

Here are my thoughts:

3.90 gears: allow a higher top speed at each gear and consequently causing it to not pull as hard. Additionally you will shift later (at a higher speed)

Lightweight flywheel: engine revs faster, thus achieving the peak power faster and you will need to shift faster (time-wise as revs reach 9k quicker)

So what would you think the result would be? Would an S with these mods pull as hard as a stock S? I know for sure it will have a higher top speed but what do you think about acceleration?

I'd like an S that can cruise at highway speeds @ lower revs

stay stock... right now the problem is wind speeds, once you get more arodynamic, the car will go 170+

Well.....it would have a higher top speed gear limited, but since the stock 4.10's are drag limited, the speed that you will be able to reach will actually be lower than stock due to the higher gears not being able to defeat the drag that even lower (4.10's) cannot. Would a lightened flywheel even it out? .....I dont think so. It will help in the lower gears a little. When you say "engine revs faster", thats true in neutral when the flywheel is basically the only load on the engine. Sure a flywheel will 'help' but would it offset the gears? Not likely. IF you used the car for mostly freeway driving this plan might be ok. However....if that was the type of driving I did i would do it with something other than a high RPM, no torque sports car!

Now, a S/C w/ 3.90 gears might be a better plan.

w/3.9's cruising in top gear, expect to downshift a bit if you need to get moving

Heres a good link for some flywheel info

I think you would hate 3.90's with this car's weak ass torque, just me though.

Wouldn't that gearing drop you out of vtec every shift? I think it would be a bitch for daily driving but you would probably get better gas mileage . A long time ago when I first got my car and I was young and dumb, I tried a top speed run but couldn't get it to the e limited 155mph.

I think Nate got it right by saying the stock S2000 is drag limited. Any cost efficient mods to lower the drag on the S?
