Vehicle License Tax
Hey, I am moving to AZ tomorrow, got my one way plane ticket, and my car will be joining me sometime next week. Did all of you people that moved to AZ get your car registered right away and pay the VLT? This law is pissing me off. I gotta pay $570 to register my 2004 S2k. Any ideas or recommendations? Is there a way around this besides not registering the car and taking a risk at getting a ticket?

I dont see any reason to register unless your tags are about to expire. If you get pulled over just tell the cop you just moved here (or some variation on that)
Depending on how old you are you can use the "im going to college" excuse. I lived in NY with UT plates for 3 years while in college.

My car is good through October. It has NC plates and registration etc. I think I might try to just drive and get away with it for as long as I can.

I had just paid for my CA plates right before I moved out here and wasn't about to pay again so I rolled around for year w/CA plates. My neighbors have had Idaho and CA plates for about 2 years, but they are military. I really don't think you'll have a problem, just tell the cops that you are visiting/school/temporary work assignment.

Awesome thanks guys! I think I will try it as long as I can, or until I have a spare $570 to drop on it.

I moved here from TX and like you didn't want to spend the 500 bucks to register..however the other side is most schools look at when you get your license here to determine residency as I have found out. They wont look at the fact I bought a House in the middle of scottsdale 8 months before...they want to see when I got my license!! #@$@#$!$!@#$!@#$#%$%$#
