Default Timing Chain Tensioner

Just over 47K miles on the car and the dealer is replacing the Timing Chain Tensioner under warranty.

I was curious if this part normally goes this soon ? I've heard some say this can go often.

Thanks,

Just curious, but what kind of oil do you use?

Mobil 1 10w-30w.

Tell me more about the symptoms and why your timing tensioner was replaced.
I have a knocking sound when the engine is cold. The noise abates for a bit after the oil is changed.
I drove my S like I stole it for four seasons of HPDE - and had a ball.
Perhaps it is time to replace my tensioner?
My engine is just now over 60k. Out of warranty, certainly, but the tensioner is easy to replace.
Word?

After I drive the car around for a while and then let it sit for 25-30 minutes and then start it again, I hear a clicking noise on startup like a BaseBall card between bicycle spokes.

So when I brought it in for the oil change I was able to have them replicate the noise. It was diagnosed as the TCT and it will be replaced once the part is shipped from California.

It only happens on start up but after looking at other posts it supposedly gets worse over time.

If you have a clicking noiseit very well may be the TCT.

That's why I ask. Looks like general consensus is that Mobil 1 might be related to TCT failure. I ran M1 for over 100k miles with no problems but now run Valvoline Synth. Now 200k+ and still on the original TCT.

If you ran M1 over 100k miles then its hard to say that is the cause.

You might be right however, we need more scientific tests to verify

Maybe its these Shitty AP2's

You guys should look into sandblasting the worm gear in the TCT.
