Default They got me!

Early Wednesday morning I woke up to my alarm going off but didn't see anything outside so I went back to sleep. Well last night when I went to go somewhere, I noticed my top was all cut up. I guess in a way I got lucky, my alarm must have scared them off when they opened the door otherwise I probably wouldn't have seats or anything anymore. I'm located in Tempe and unfortunately have to park my car outside, this is something I was afraid of for a while but ended up getting comfortable.

On another note, I've never had to file a claim or anything like this. Anyone have any advice as far as who to get quotes from and what to expect? I have full comprehensive coverage from Geico and am hoping to get a hardtop out of this somehow so that I don't have to deal with this again. Thanks!

That sucks man. Insurance claims are tricky. If you own the car outright, they will just cut you a check and you can do whatever you want with it. If their is a lien on the vehicle, then it is usually up to the bank to decide how it is repaired. I payed my Hardtop out of pocket and then took it to the bank. The checked it out and made sure it was repaired properly. Then they reimbursed me for the repairs.

There is a lein on the car, I was unaware of that. I'm hoping not to have to lay the money out as I'm a poor college student at the moment. In that case I may just patch it and have to deal with it for now. Thanks for that info, I'll have to ask the insurance company about that and perhaps give my bank a call.

Sorry to hear this....

I would consider repairing yourself especially if you have a high deductible and want to avoid a claim on your record.
Also, get a garage or a cover or something.... Hardtops don't mean your car is safe, they will just take the hardtop too!

Sorry to hear. I hope you find a way to park inside, I'm sure someone will be back to finish the job at some point. Apparently our seats and clusters are just too damn awesome to resist!

This happened to me twice last year in January and again at the beginning of March. I had to park outside and didn't have another option. I had Geico and after the second break in they dropped me. Take your car to a reputable shop. Geico will try to get you to pay for some of their cost by saying that this is a depreciating part and not give you the full amount. DO NOT LET THEM DO THIS. You pay for comprehensive coverage like everyone else and they are going to try and minimize their loss too. Get a quote from the shop you take it to and find a hardtop. Whoever did this will be back to do it again. Unfortunately your car is marked now because they know either where you live or spend the night. Check the forums for the guys selling the $1300 frp Mugen style hardtop and have the shop paint and install with the insurance money. I had a new top installed the first time only for them to come back again and cut my top and then slash my seats too because there was nothing in the car to steal.

Sorry to hear that man, it's a burden we all have to live with unfortunately. I moved into a place with a garage though, and my car is in a garage during the day as well to help prevent thefts.

It is a good thing that you at least had an alarm... If you didn't you may of been missing your entire interior

It is a frustrating reality but if you live in a big city like Phoenix and you have a S2000 parked outside overnight YOU WILL GET JACKED!!!
I cannot tell you how many "I got hit" threads I have read on here since I discovered this community and they all parked outside overnight.

Love your Honda and garage it or get at least get a $20 car cover for her from eBay
You guys are just asking for it... Don't be a statistic
