Woohoo!
I called the local Stongard dealer to have my S2000 and my wife's MR2 Spyder done. When he heard that I had a S2k, he offered to give a discount if we can get together a group of buyers.
Here is the deal:
Stongard kit: $500.95 (body) + $59.95 (lights) = $560.90
If we get 6 cars (my two cars are already committed, so we need 4 more), he will give us a 20% discount on the kits. Prices for Stongard at dealerships runs $900-1500.
In addition, he will arrange installation of the kits for $170 using the installer used by the Penske dealership. He has 2 years experience is reputed to be one of the best. The installs will be done within 1-2 weeks after receiving the kit.
Shipping by UPS Ground is $10. Our group buy price with install, including shipping, is $628.72. This is a savings of about $200 over the individual price.
In summary, 6 cars means $628.72. We need 4 more people who are interested. I will post a note in the Group Buy forum in case anyone from other areas wants to drive in for the deal.
For those of you who aren't familiar with Stongard, it is a clear plastic covering for the front of the car, headlights and side mirrors to prevent dings and chips due to rocks and other debris. You could consider it a nearly invisible bra.
Here are some threads regarding the product with some pics:

And you can contact the dealer, Barry Pantzer @ 480-345-0411 or bpantzer@qwest.net with questions. I am definitely in because I don't want to see any damage to the nose of my car. I am going over this weekend to look at some of the Lotus and other exotics which have had installs done.
Pretty good afternoon!

Jim,
Yep, Barry said that he knew you and had talked to you about Stongard, and that was how we ended up discussing a GB. One of the reasons that I called him was that you gave him a good recommendation at the group drive. If you can get us a better deal, that would be great; as I said, if there aren't 4 more people interested, I am doing it on our 2 cars anyway.
Have you met the installer? Barry said wonderful things about him and the work that he has done. Is he the same guy that did some of the NSX's?

If he's already aware that we know each other and he offered a group buy I doubt I can do any better.
I've seen only two NSXs with stongard. His car (white) and a new blue one. Both were done when stongard was relatively new and both, in my opinion, look like sh*t. I have seen later cars that looked good. If the installer is experienced it can make a world of difference. I imagine that his installer has gotten quite good.

That is a disappointing story. How long ago was this? The pictures that I have seen posted look excellent. As I mentioned, Barry invited me over Saturday to a photo shoot being done with some cars that have Stonegard installed; I guess I will have an idea of the current installer's skill level then.
It sounds like you aren't interested in GB; what is your recommendation overall? Do you prefer the Colgan bra over the Stongard?

I've seen later jobs on different cars that looked good. If I didn't already have a fine collection of chips and scratches I'd probably do it. Like I said these were probably the first two cars done. The installer is much better with experience. I saw his Cadillac Escalade with ston gard which looked great. If the installer is good I say go for it but don't depend on pictures, see the cars up close for yourself.
Done poorly, ston gard looks like that clear spray on chip protection you see on the lower edges of some cars. ie orange peel and yellow. Done well it looks almost invisible.
