Spark Plugs
Read and HEED!
When you replace your spark plugs, torque those bitches to Honda spec, or you'll be sorry.
Last year about this time, I thought I'd try a new spark plug set. When I put the plugs in, I seated the plugs tight - to where the wrench stops, then gave a 1/4 turn.
With an aluminum head, you definitely don't want to over-tighten as you'll strip the threads. Well, you don't want to under-tighten them either!
Following a routine valve adjustment today, it was found that one of SPLNDID's plugs was frozen. Apparently, it was under-tightened and the high pressure in the cylinder caused the plug to foul the threads. So now...
It will cost around 2k to have the head removed, have the stuck plug removed, and have the head machined and put back together.
I could just shit.
SPLNDID had to be left at Earnhardt's because after trying to remove the plug, the threads just gave out and there is NO way its engine should be started up.
TORQUE your plugs when you replace them!
Cesar says it is 18 ft/lbs... whatever it is... check your manual and get it right. Otherwise, your 12 dollar plug will cost you 2k in repairs.
arggggggg!

Sorry Curt That's a major downer. I checked the torque on my plugs when I got home today. 18 ft/lbs on all 4. They're good to go! Cheer up homie! Just bring the civic out on Sun, it'll be a blast. Sure beats staying at home when the weather is so nice to be on track!

LOL!
I think the license screws are 7 ft-lbs. But refer to your manual first.
If there is anything I can impart to you all is that this S ain't no average machine.
I've done everything else so detailed... but "assumed" that the standard seating of spark plugs is okay for the S as well. NOPE! I could just shit.
I still can't believe that I killed my S.
Where is the "Punk'd" camera? This is all a sick funny joke, isn't it?
NOPE

That sucks Curt! We were all looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.
I am crazy about torquing everything, even if people look at me funny.
Maybe take advantage and put in the Hondata gasket while the head is off?

Nah.
I don't see much an advantage of putting the Hondata insulator on.
I talked with Cesar, and he'd drill a hole for the hot water to pass through because it would mess up a sensor if it were blocked.
In my opinion, the Hondata gasket would not gain much power enough to warrent installation.
What I am looking for while the head is torn apart is for parts that might be replaced eventually... valve springs, retainers... etc.
I hope to bring SPLNDID out to PIR in October.
I'm still bummin' about missing this weekend and ****ing up my engine by not torqueing the plugs. But you know what?... I'll NEVER EVER **** up my engine by assuming anything again!
Torque that shit every time! Everything!
