I still recommend going through out the East entrance and then down 395. You can cut over at 168. See Google maps route.

So I ended up driving into Yosemite and going into the valley, then back up and out the other side. I did take the 395 and continued through Death Valley. It was an overall awesome trip and tons of fun.
Even better.

True.

So we started our trip up the coast in Santa Monica, wasn't too bad.

Took a little detour on a little road off the PCH. Quite twisty and no one on it.

Stopped for the night in Santa Barbara

Also stopped somewhere along the way and to our surprise there were TONS of elephant seals!

Once we made it to San Francisco we didn't drive at all.
We went to Alcataz, rode bikes across the bridge, went to China Town all using the local transportation.

Finally got to see the Winchester Mansion.

The way up into Yosemite as well as through and out of it was quite fun.
I might say the measure of a fun drive is Twists, Tunnels, and Topography.

Last stop was Vegas. Hit 100k mi along the way. My poor car is getting so old. :/

What a great trip you had! Two of you? Please tell my g/f that the S was comfortable enough for that trip.

The S is fine for that trip. I took my g/f at that time on a 12 day, 2,400 mile roadtrip through Nevada and CA that included Sequoia, Yosemite, Napa, SF, and PCH. She had no issue with it at all.

The car is lowered and rougher than stock. It was surprisingly comfortable. My wife didn't complain about the ride quality or the amount of time in the car. My wife drove a small portion of the trip and she definitely had fun. She drove about 4hrs out of Yosemite and all of Vegas to Phoenix. We had a GREAT time. The whole point of driving up is taking the PCH hwy 1 and enjoying the coast.
It was almost exactly 2000mi total.

I guess its a bit more than a small portion... it seemed like a small amount.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I've been dreaming of a trip like that for years, long before I got the S. I"ve done portions of that trip a different times when I lived in California, but have always dreamed of the coast trip in a convertible. The S seems like the perfect car for something like that. I think it would be a blast.
