Default Removing heat shield

I was trying to remove the black batteryh shield and noticed that a long wrench or reach for that matter is required for the one bolt.

Can anyone tell me what type of wrench is best to use for that long reach ? I see the other three can be removed with a socket.

Thanks,

Well a open end wrench worked the best for me you talking about removing the header heatshield correct? the bolt way in the back is tough to get to the front three can be taken out with a small socket, be prepared to say dirty words and drop the wrench a few times lol those stanley wrenches that ratchet work pretty sweet you can find them at lowes or home depot

Here is a big tip.

The last bolt doe not need to come out all the way. The hole is slotted downward so you can just loosen it 1/4 turn then wiggle the shield up.

Yep, and a regular line wrench will reach to it. It will be particularly easy if everything is cooled down so that you can fearlessly reach down there, i had to do it while everything was heated up, making it extremely difficult (trying not to touch the header while reaching down to get that bolt.

Thanks for the advice.

So If the car is not jacked up a long wrench is required. I'll make sure the car has not been driven for at least a few hours.

Time to go shopping in the Tool dept

Yes, 10mm. You shouldn't need any fancy tools to get that off.

I just did this for the Spoon ETD install and the longer the 10 MM the better. The longest 10 mm I had in my tool box was 6 1/2 inches and the job would have been a lot easier with a 7 or 8 inch long wrench. If I had a welder, I would have welded on an extension for an even longer wrench.

I dropped the wrench at least 6 times. A few of those times the wrench made it to an interesting cavity where I had to find it and fish it out, but most of the time it went straight to the floor. I felt and must of looked like an idiot; between the dropping and limited wrench turning radius, it probably took me about 30 minutes to get the bolt loosened about 2 turns to lift the heat shield out. The install went a little smoother since there was more room to turn the wrench in that direction.

I tried from underneath the car, but there's no way I could snake my hand up there to reach the back bolt.
