Stupid question, but did you unpin the axle nut? Breaker bars aren't that expensive and you're going to need a 3/4" one to re-torque it properly.

I'm talking about the thin metal lip, should have used the proper term which is "staked". You can use a flat blade screw driver to pry that part up.
