Default Proposed Day Run

Motorcycles are not the only ones who enjoy scenic drives. Here's one to explore as a group drive. Has anyone done this before? I'm wondering about stops along the way, a place for lunch and fuel stops. If any one has this information along this route, I would like to share that and maybe organize a group drive.

My buddy and I did this run a while back. It was perfect! Stopped for lunch in Miami and then stopped again in Roosevelt Lake and made a pitstop at Casino Arizona haha! It was def. a fun run

I was thinkning of meeting at 9:30 a.m. and making a mid-morning (10:00 a.m.) departure from a Mesa location, pit stop in Miami or near Globe, then up the 188 through Tonto Basin and Punkin Center, with a lunch stop at maybe Butcher Hook Restaurant. Continue up to meet the Beeline Highway (AZ 87) back to Mesa.

I haven't set a fixed date yet. I'm trying to add it to the 2012 agenda and see that we don't have anything for February, but wonder if it might still be too cool for some top down driving when we get up north.

I'll propose Saturday, February 18, or Saturday March 3, Saturday March 17 or Sunday March 18. What sound good to the group?

Just pick a day Mark, plan it and see how many will show up. If it rains or snows, do it the following weekend. It is a good drive with a few twists and some nice scenery. This was an alternate drive for one of the Fun in the Sun events.

Ok, I'll pick a primary date and a rain date back up.

We'll drive on Saturday, March 3, with a 9:30 a.m. meet and a 10:00 a.m. sharp departure. We'll drive about an hour to an hour and a half, make our first stop in the area, then head north for a lunch stop about an hour or so after that. After lunch, we can continue north to catch a highway route back south and return to the metro area.

Rain/Snow date is the next Saturday, March 10.

This is my first ride organizing. If we get a good size group, I'll make the lunch reservations, if they take them. Will anyone need a printed map or directions? Do you like to use 2- way FRS radios? Does anyone have experience leading the group drive? I've been on a couple of group drives, but always near the rear, not the front. Does someone bring road emergency gear or are we on our own? Should I start a new post for sign ups?
