Check out Green Valley / Sahuarita. Safe, low crime and good schools. 15-20 minutes to downtown Tucson.
My wife works on the East Side and it takes her 2o-25 minutes to drive to work, away from all the rush hour traffic.
Area is brand new, house prices are right in your range.
I've lived here 5 years, close enough to Tucson but far enough away from all the city downsides.

Thanks again for some valuable info. I found out today that my company will be building on the South East side, North of I10 just off of S. Houghton Rd. We are going to make a trip down the second week of March to check out the area. If all looks good then we should be moving down around the 1st of May.
Thanks again...

That is a growing part of town. Vail house prices have went through the roof. That is the area where my wife works. 20-25 minutes from Sahuarita. Check out Rita Ranch as well, it is off of South Houghton Road, brand new area, kind of rural though but still only 10-15 minutes south of I-10

Looks like the move to Tucson is going to happen... I'm in Tucson this week looking for a home, Pretty sure we'll end up in the Rita Ranch area. I'm looking forward to getting everything squared away and getting down here by June. Sun & Fun!!!

If you want THE schools you need to be in one of three areas.
1. District 16 in the Foothills. Widely regarded as the best. Visit a school, you can feel the money this district spends on the schools. Up here (I live next to Manzanita) $275k will get you under 2k square feet and maybe AC in a 1970s home. Getting to be not worth it.
2. Sam Hughes next to the U of A. Very expensive homes that are old. Probably out of your price range.
3. East side of Amphi. Harelson for elementary, best Amphi lower grade school. Same situation as housing for #1 but not as severe if you get lucky.
From what I understand everything else is a crap shoot.

I hear that the Vail district schools are pretty good. It's all a crap shoot these days for the most part. If I buy in Rita Ranch then I'll be less than 5 minutes to work and that part is really appealing. Thanks for the info...
