According to a thread on the SCCA forum, a Phoenix International Raceway representaive has notified the club that there are no plans to include the road course with the improvements to the track.

Yep. The local NASA group already sent out mass emails and posted that the track is no more....

The reasoning sounds fishy, but considering the number of wrecks on that particular corner, I guess it will only make things worse. Its not like they are paying for damages, but if its unsafe, best to avoid it all together.

I also keep hearing rumblings about Firebird closing. Think it would already be closed if not for the Bondurant school.
First Manzanita, now PIR Road Course...

That blows. I had so much fun there, loved the carousel and diving into turn 1 at crazy speeds (for me anyways).
I saw a PBS special on the valley that showed sanctioned racing up South Mountain in the 70's! I wanna try that...slowly.
