New Engine Fun
I am pretty sure I know what this is but I'd like to see if anyone has any other idea's before I start shopping.
Tonight I did a HWY88 run and just before the first look out I heard a rattle develop from the engine. Long story short it sounds like a rattle from the front of the engine when I get above 2700RPM. So I limped it home at 45 MPH.
Anyone think this is something other then A timing chain job?
2004 with 65K miles...
Thanks!

Timing chain tensioner?
The tensioner is very easy to change though so I may just start with that until I have more free time to do the whole job.
Tensioner: $160.00
Chain: $96.00
Guides: $120.00
Fixing it yourself to avoid the $800 in labor and know its done right: Priceless

i have a back up motor with good guides in it if you need them. the tensioner and chain are there but i would just get new ones. it seems like most the time its just the timing chain tensioner so a 15 min fix.

Yeah I ordered the tensioner from Honda today. It will be here Tuesday.
Wish me luck on it just being the tensioner!! Having to yank the head would suck.
I appreciate your willingness to sell your guides if I need them, Ill let you know.

Well I replaced the tensioner today.... It seemed to quiet down but the knocking sound didn't go away completely. So I did a valve adjustment and A oil change.
I still haven't finished the oil change, because my magnetic drain plug has so many shiny flakes of copper, brass, and other misc bearing metals I decided not to waste the oil. Spun rod bearing FTL
On a positive note, I got that window tint ticket from the morning of the Prescott run dismissed today.
