Nephew in Phoenix area seeking used S2000

From everything I've seen of these folks, the AZ crew is very supportive and very knowledgeable. Don't be afraid to ask for help. I have yet to see them fail to step up and go the extra mile to help out others. Good peeps.
And it doesn't hurt they have Science of Speed in their backyard. :-)

There is a yellow 2007 S2000 on the lot at Showcase Honda in central Phoenix right now. I stopped by yesterday to look at it. It's all stock, except for what I think is an XM antennae on the trunk lid, and an aftermarket head unit. Clean CarFax they said, and as I was there, they posted a lower price. It got marked down from $24,900 or so to $20,886. It been there a little while, so they might come even lower. The salesman who came out to meet me on the lot didn't know where the trunk release was until I told him. He was looking for in under the passenger side of the dash. He was pretty clueless about the car. Playing dumb, I asked him if the engine was 2.2 liters, and he had to go to the window sticker to check it out.

Thanks for the advice and offers to help, everyone! My price limit I'm trying to stay in is around $16k max, so it unfortunately cuts out a lot of the clean S2Ks out there. Hopefully everything works out with this one (waiting to hear back from my credit union still) and if not then it's back to the search lol. Yeah having SoS here is one reason I am leaning more to the S2K than other cars haha

Do you have cash or are you financing? If you're willing to travel to pick up an S2000 your options really improve.
Also for what it's worth, if you're buying an AP1 the mid year 02-03 are where it's at. You get lots of revisions and updates and still get the 9000 RPM motor.

I am getting a loan through my credit union and paying the full amount to whoever the owner is. I am kind of open to the idea of traveling if a deal that was really worth it presented itself, but if I can keep it local and take the car to the guy who's been our family mechanic forever (so he can throw it up on a lift and look it over) that would be ideal. I'm aware of the updates, and if I could find one that is newer with relatively similar miles and in my price range I'd defnitely check it out. This one just seemed very clean, low miles, and the price is right.

Do you have to have the car right now? Meaning are you without a car and in desperate need of transportation asap which would make you settle on a good deal?
If you have other means of transportation and have time, make sure you get what you really want the first time. A lot of us have gone through multiple S2000's in an attempt to land the one of our dreams, so take your time if you can.
The differences between 2000 and 2002-03 are significant enough that I would certainly pass on the 2000 and keep looking.

Yeah, I have a '00 Corolla. I definitely understand the merit of getting the right thing the first time, as that is a philosophy I really try to live by. It's just tough because I've been obsessed with cars forever and finally at the point where I can afford to get one that's worthwhile lol

I hear ya. Honestly I think most of us "settled" on our first S2000 in some cases. I know I did. I found the best deal and jumped on it. After a few years of ownership decided to sell and find another S2000. Realistically the perfect S2000 doesnt exist because you need more than 1
