So I went to the AT&T store to try and get a new iphone. The sales rep told me they can't sell just the phone and that I would have to take on a 2 year plan.

Are they just full of crap? I just want to get the phone for someone for her birthday. The sales rep suggested I get a gift card...

i looked on craigslist and such and people want crazy amount for unlock ones.

Any1 know where I can just get a normal one?

 

Go to the apple store and buy the "iPhone Gift Card" if you're seriously intending on buying a friend an iPhone.

they are not allowed to sell them with no contract.


Dsr1203 has some used 3g iphones at the monday meets that he mentioned a few times.

 

i would do the gift card deal but i think its pretty sad to give someone a card to go get a iphone you know what i mean?

 

Yea the problem is the phone itself sells for $699.

AT&T subsidizes it to customers with the 2 year plan.

So there's no way they're going to sell you one.

 

Giving someone a phone bill for two years is not that great a gift. Just pay for the plan up front or choose a different gift.

Buy the phone while they sign up for the plan.

Maybe talk about it a little before to feel out if the iPhone + Monthly Bill is right for them?

Ninja Edit: If she already has service when is she up for renewal so you can get the discount. (Every 2 years)

 

There is an unlimited data plan that costs about $30/mo that is added on top of regular service.

 

 

i dont think that applies to the iPhone, i thought there was a specific iPhone plan you had to get.
