Default Go-karting soon

I recall a few good drivers. Mini-F1, 4DCurvs, Simmy, etc. Any tips for us novice drivers? What to do, what not to do. General guidelines/approaches?

Be as smooth as possible and don't get into the mindset that the cart will lose grip. Let it lose grip a few times to know its limits. It's not like a road car and you can push it much further than you think.

What Simmy said. Plus, in any kart (especially slower single speed), the line is critical as you will need to keep the rpm high as possible so you have good speed on to the straight. Lose yoru line and bind up the front wheels = no good.

1. You can turn more than you think you can.
2. DO NOT kung-fu grip the wheel. It will conduct vibrations through your body making you very tired very fast.

Thanks for the tips guys. They definitely helped me achieve a level of consistency in my lap times. Probably can slowly start carrying more speed in the turns.

Something that particularly seemed to work for me was to brake in the straights, and turn in without gas or braking pre-apex and then just accelerating post apex. Any opinions on this technique?

Holla.

You should try and use the brake as little as possible and steer with the gas pedal.

Yes all braking should happen before turning for best weight distribution. Accelerate gradually at the apex. Remember that the pedals are not on/off switches (which is hard in a cart)
