Engine Rumble
Gotta be the throw-out bearing on the clutch assembly. Can feel it on the clutch pedal too.
The car makes a "clanking" noise around 1700 RPM sometimes... not all the time. Believe that the bearing has gone out and causing an imbalance because it misplaces the clutch disk slightly out of center. Won't track SPLNDID until fixed.
Why post? So I can let you know how it goes. Have all the new parts ready to go. Was afraid it was an engine problem, but now firmly believe it is purely the clutch assembly to include the throw-out bearing.
Engine strong. Clutch on its way out to include the bearings.
Will let you know.

Let it out.
Just want to pass on a common issue. I see LOTS of wonderinds why the powertrain is rattling and vibrating ... all with common symptoms of feeling the roughness in the clutch pedal as well. I haven't had time to tear down the car yet. But I'm just throwing out a shout to all who have lots of clutch shifts and are wondering where and what the rumbling is about.
My S is approaching 50k, and rough ones as well. Probably 1/3 the time is spent on the track.
Me, I'm betting it is the clutch bearings. The clutch isn't slipping, but it feels like the throw-out bearing is hosed.
So, with that "bet", I'm trying to assure others that the knocking and feeling in the clutch release pedal is NOT an engine problem... but merely a clutch throw-out bearing issue.
I hope your dog leaves you another present in the hallway... only this time twice as large with mushed corn and undigested grass, and you step in it on your way to work.

SPLNDID is the car. So CB referring to SPLNDID in what seems to be the third person actually is not.
