Default Does anyone have an extra alternator?

Mine is starting to go- I am getting the dash flickering at idle symptom. None of the auto parts stores in town have one either.

I was going to try to get mine rebuilt over at Chandler auto and electric tomorrow, but I figure I'd check here first.

Thanks George, I'll give them a call anyway, but according to their catalog they don't have any in stock :\

So what causes this? Is it the regulator?

I replaced mine a few months ago because I thought it was squeaking, turned out not to be the source. I don't know if its the original 04 one or the 06 one that might of came with the swap. so it has 80K miles or 20K miles on it. Ill check for a build date tomorrow.

I have read that a diode tends to go out on it, which causes odd output at idle and low rpm. IT seems to be ok at higher RPM but at idle you can head the tone of the walbro change, and the dash starts flickering.

Weird, mine does the same thing. I might have to pick one up at work in the next couple of days.

There is a whole thread on this.

What they say is that replacing just the rectifier solves the problem. I had mild flicker on idle and swapped that part (~$100) but have not ran the car since so I have no idea if it fixed it. The rectifier itself does not look like something that would go bad so I am no holding my breath.

On zx10rs the rectifiers go bad all the time due to heat, and it can cause the stator(alternator) to burn out. I just had this issue a few months back and it left me stranded off of i-10 and 24th st on a saturday night(scary.)
