^^true about the chinese places... though you have to know where to go in order to get the authentic foods (aka hole in the wall)
the newest restaurant that has authentic Dim Sum is Golden Buddha; by far the best I have tasted in the valley.
I used to work at Ayako so I'm biased... though most japanese sushi/teppan restaurants have edamame; you can even buy the frozen kind at Lee Lee oriental market, Ranch 99 market and some grocery stores around the valley.
For a younger crowd you can always try Kyoto's, Blue Wasabi, or Stingray (I like the latter the most)
Silver shadow sounds like you have some kind of yella fever

I know more about restarants in the east valley b/c I grew up down here but up in N.Phoenix I'm not too knowledgable.

Ayako is pretty good for japanese.. sapporo is over priced...
az88 is nice for a lounge
good ol INnOut burger cant beat that for the price.
Yeah Sapporo is overpriced but from 4pm to 7pm it's happy hour. Most average rolls like Tuna and Salmon are $3 for 6 to 8 pieces.
