There is an SCCA auto-cross practice session tomorrow, January 17 at Arizona Motorsports Park (AMP). Sorry for the late notice, but I wasn't sure I was going to be one of the lucky 80 drivers to get in on this. This event is practice for the SCCA National Tour event that's going to be at AMP Jan 23 thru Jan 25, but they let a rookie like me sneak in under the wire.

The plan is to be able to get 12 runs in. I will be at the track between 7:00 and 7:30 AM, but my SCCA work schedule is to work for the first few sessions. Because of the work requirement and the opportunity to run 12 times, I'll probably be out there most of the day.

AMP is located about two miles West of Litchfield Road just North of Camelback Ave, and right next to Falcon Golf Course. In fact, Falcon Golf Course and AMP share the same entrance, just veer to the left after you enter off of Camelback Rd. The easiest way for East-Siders to get to AMP is to get to the Loop 101 on the West side, and take the Camelback Rd exit (5). After exiting, head West for about 7 miles and through 4 stop lights. If you want to risk a ride with me and see what auto-cross is all about, come on out and I'll be happy to share what I know. The SCCA usually has helmets available for use, so don't let the lack of a helmet stop you from coming out.

Sorry for the confusion, but the auto-cross is Saturday, January 17, NOT Sunday. That's what I get for copying a previous post.

The date is correct in the title but the day is NOT. If a mod is reading this, please change the Sunday in the title to Saturday.

My son has a soccer game today. Watching 3-4yr olds playing soccer is very entertaining.

Just got back, from AMP, what a day. Got 15 runs in on a very challenging (for me anyway) course. Met StarvinMarvin and his wife Mary Ann. Gave Starvin a ride that he "said" he enjoyed. Also gave a ride to my better half, and got some tips from Mark McCombs during a another session. Also met Mark ?? with a new white and tan 04, what a beautiful car. McCombs also has an 04 in Suzuka Blue.

Had a pretty good spin in my second to last run, but saved my best for last and ended up running a 45.194. I think Mark ?? was in the 46's as was I for most of the runs. M. McCombs with his prepped 04 was running in the 41's. Just to give you some idea of how slow I am, there were a couple of old time Lotus's running best of the day times in the mid 39's.

It was a blast to get that many runs in, meet some new S2000 nuts, and see some 04's up close and personal.

The SCCA national tour auto-cross is here next week at AMP and will be running practice on Friday, with the competition on Sat and Sun.
