Default Any benefit on higher octane gas or octane boost?

Just found out that the 76 Station on 56th and Bell, sells 100 octane from the pump, and it's $4.90 a gallon. I know back in KS that the Amacos use 93 octane but out here I think everything is 91. Or, will adding octane boost do anything?
I know the manual says nothing under 91 octane should be used, but I was just curious if there would be any benefit using the higher octane. Thanks guys for any input.

I know the Mobil over here on 44th St and Chandler Blvd sells that stuff too...
It is like $5.00 a gallon but I have never tried it.

As far as octane boost goes I have used a few different brands and never noticed a difference.....

I think octane booster is the same liquid as injector cleaner!
They just put a different label on it.....lol

If you try the gas let us know if it is worth the money

Just did a search in the "under the hood" forum, and found out it is a complete waste of money.

First off - I am not an expert, but having hung around people that are for 20 years, I have absorbed some info. First, engines are designed to run on a certain octane gas. That octane is typically reported as ron (research octane number). For example 91 ron. There is also a motor octane number, which is typically lower than ron. The octane number on the pump is the average of research and motor octane number (if you look it will usually say r+m/2 on the pump). Anyway, you used to run high octane gas because you could advance the timing for autox's and track days. Now with the computer systems, the average person cannot advance the timing - it is all set by ignition maps in the computer.

So the long and short of it is, you are probably not getting any benefit from running higher octane gas in a stock motor (other than a psychological benefit).

Article in the USA Today, today...
http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/2003-0...remiumgas_x.htm

NOTE: the Acura chemist goes back and forth between regular and premium and doesn't notice a difference and the Porsche representative says ALL production Porsches can run on 87 octane...

NONE of them recommended putting any higher than their suggested octane levels in the cars.

In a stock motor that is true. In a supercharged unit, you get much more rapid increases in pressures due to boost, and you need a more "stable" fuel to prevent detonation and knock, so that is an application where higher octane is actually useful.
