My buddy has decided he wants new wheels on his AP2 (not positive on the MY, I think it's an 05-06). However, he also wants to keep his stock rubber since he just invested in new tires.

Are there aftermarket rims that will fit the OEM tire? He said he would prefer something in flat black, five-spoke.

Of course. Just about any wheel will work as long as he sticks with 17's. Most people run a staggered setup, ~8" front and ~9" rear. I'll try to come up with some specific wheels today for him to check out.

Yes, 17x8 front and 17x9 rear will fit. Keep the offset above 50 if he does not want to roll his fenders.

What kind of budget is he working with? Like Simmy mentioned, the hardest part is finding a high offset wheel if he wants a stock like fitment without rolling the fenders.

5zigen FN01R-C available in 8" +43, 9" +43. Probably need a fender roll depending on tire size, ride height, and alignment settings. Real popular wheel on 240sx/350Z because you get concave spokes with low offsets. It doesn't concave with S2000 fitments though, will look a bit plain.

Try TR motorsport (Tire Rack) wheels. They have specific s2k sized wheels.
