I am thinking about jumping on Ricks special for the 4.56 gears. I just want to buy the gears(499) and have them installed in my stock housing. Who would do the best job for a fair price? Is anyone else in AZ going to get these gears?
And what are your opinions of the gears? Anybody have them or the 4.44 gears that only cost like 250?

Cesar is your man!
But if you're thinking about going S/C in the future you might consider the reinforced pumpkin. It'd be a shame to push those shiny, new 4.56s out onto the street at a busy intersection...

you mean the 4.57 gears? there is video somewhere on the forum that has 4.57 gears vs stock. pretty good vid. IMO if you are going to get the SC then 4.57 gears is fine, but the 4.77 gears are a blast. Daily driver 4.57 gears, weekend car 4.77 gears.
now, basically you don't want to skimp on this. Labor is expensive, and its expensive for a reason. To do the gears not only do you need a competent mechanic to remove the diff, but one that has knowledge and experience doing gears. this job is labor intensive.
There are only two guys in the valley that I would trust.
Cesar Molina at Avondale Honda

I've always heard to have a 4x4 shop do it because they have the most experience with setting up gears. However I would trust Cesar at Earnhardts to do it because I know that he would take the time to get the specs right and they stand behind they're work. As far as the gear set you pick I wouldn't pay the price Ricks asks. They are not anything special from what I've seen. Read up on Kia gears that will fit. There are other alternatives that don't come at a premium.

Cool thread (so far, I'm at work so I can't read it all): https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showt...20&hl=kia+gears
I remember there was a guy that basically called out Rick's for charging so much for their gears and went over other options. I read his thread a while ago so I can't remember who it was and a quick search didn't yield much but I did find that link ^^.
