I hated my first couple years here. Then you just accept that Phoenix is "center of the sun" hot during the summer. I also think you do aclimate as mentioned by Wil.

Once you have accepted where you are now living - you will find A/C to be not just a friend, but a saviour. You will realize that if you need to get outside, just hop in your car and head north - within about an hour or so you will find a nice place to pull over and put your top down.

You know you have been here long enough when you can actually find comfort in anything south of 105F. I can be outside, on the golf course, clean the pool/yard up until about 106 - then its mojitos and the swimming pool
I'll still golf any day no matter how hot it gets. As a matter of fact I was golfing when it was 118 out. I went out to Starfire and shot a damn 73 with a couple of stupid shots in there.

I don't know about you guys but the storm that just rolled through here had some very intense lightning. Here is a radar image:

Just washed my SUV. Parked it outside for 10 minutes, then brought it back in, wiped the dirt off, put it outside for 10 minutes to rinse and brought it back inside to dry

Looks like the storm has redeveloped over the top of Phoenix. The lightning and rain are once again very intense. Updated radar image:

McDowell Mountain was on fire for like 30-45 minutes, pretty bad until the rain started.

We got hit with some serious wind and lightning storms here in Fountain Hills. Have not looked yet, but assume my pool is full of debris.

Over the last couple of weeks we've had several cells with blotches of dark purple. Insane stuff. At both courses we have ThorGuard, a lighting detection system. Basically it measures the amount of electricity in the air, (and tracks how many lightning strikes, very cool stuff if you are a stat junkie) at both 15 mile radius and 2.5 mile radius. The 15 mile ranges in whole numbers from 0 to 9, the 2.5 mile ranges in tenth's from 0.0 to 9.9. If the numbers hit 6 and 3.0 respectively, a lightning warning is issued and everyone must get off the course. A couple weeks ago we were on lightning alert for about 7 hours, most of the time at 9 and 9.9. A typical big storm will get 50-80 strikes within the radius. We got nearly a thousand in that time.

Made for a lot of happy members. We were forced to cancel our biggest ladies tournament of the year due to it. Lot of happy women there.

I played golf the day it was 122 degrees here. My brother and I were the only two people on the course. Hitting the ball is like hitting a fresh egg. What a feeling. Played in just over 2 hours!
