BTW, Costco has a Sharp (56DR650) 56" DLP HDTV Projection TV on sale for $1800. Not 1080P though.

We love the new TV! Once you go HD you can never go back. Vann's got the unit here as promised, no problemo. The Samsung picture is the best I have seen for the $. Sure, the top of the line Sony is a little (very little) better, but it's not worth the extra money IMO. I don't recommend the Samsung stand though, it's pretty ugly. I got a nice stand at Ultimate Electronics for cheap money, they have the best selection I found. Magnolia, Jerry's, and Showcase didn't really have much to choose from. I have a big center channel speaker to accommodate, so my options were limited.
One question, is there any benefit to using an HDMI connection to the TV from the receiver versus the component input? Obviously I am not using the TV's speakers and the 2 meter HDMI cable is over $100. Does the component connection carry a 1080P signal?

Update-
Three months with the TV and I still am amazed at the picture quality, especially for $3k. I am very happy with all aspects of its performance. I can't wait to see what an actual 1080p source looks like. (My HD tuner and DVD player are 1080i max) I'm not dropping a grand on blu-ray just yet...

I decided to possibly load up my year old four port HDMI switch. I've been an early adopter of a lot of technology. I've been holding off to check the two new high definition disc formats. Now that the Samsung was released this week I went to Ultimate Electronics last night and checked out the better Toshiba HD-DVD player and the Samsung Blu-Ray player set up in their projector room - connected to a Sony SXRD 1080p projector.
I brought in two test DVDs of my own. Superbit Fifth Element DTS DVD vs BD Fifth Element and Serenity DVD versus Serenity HD-DVD. Both players took what felt like minutes to load the high definition discs and only seconds to load the DVDs. It was kind of agonizing - no where as bad as my now nearly unusued, but still in my rack original DVD player, which is a Laserdisc / DVD combination player (yes, I still have Laserdiscs). That player cost me $1200 back in 1997 and LDs were $50-$100 and DVDs were $40, more than either player and the discs cost more too.
With DVD it was an easier sell to get me to plop down the $1200: there was no competing and similar standard and it was obviously going to destroy LD, although the first DVD movies still looked better on LD.
Now, there is a battle of standards and the technology needs to be refined. I wasn't impressed enough to plop down the money on either player (big markups on these players). They were both as large as my LD player too. BIG devices. I was tempted to take them both home (and return within 30days), but that's not the right thing to do.
