Default 04-05 vs 06+ Engine Compatibility

I have looked and can't find a definite answer, what parts engine wise are the same or otherwise interchangeable without making any mods? I realize the throttle bodies aren't due to DBW, but what about the heads and blocks? Any info is much appreciated and I apologize if this has been covered or beaten to death I searched for hours and couldn't find any solid facts.

I swapped a 06 into my 04 and there is only one problem but its a big one.

You obviously need to swap over the 04 intake manifold, valve cover, sensor wheels etc

The problem is in 06 they got rid of the air pump system and the air injection port system that's built into the 04 head is not on the 06 head giving you a permanent check engine light. The only way you can get rid of it is by going Kpro or putting the 04 head on the 06 block. The light is so quick to come on that I couldn't even sneak it through smog, and I have a code scanner. I did modify a OEM header with a external air injection manifold that can be used to pass smog but its a temporary thing only.

What about the opposite of what you did, by that I mean 04-05 block in 2006 to replace the 06 block?

Sounds like you'd have a hole to plug then...
