Default WTB: Island Range Hood

I'm considering doing some remodeling to my kitchen. One aspect would be to take down some island hanging cabinetry from the ceiling. Unfortunately, that will mean the range hood will come down as well. I would *like* to stay "in code" and therefore would like to consider a ceiling-mounted range hood.

Anyone here work in the appliance / retail business that distributes such hoods? These $1K+ prices are simply ridiculous

...sure would be nice if someone did knockoffs of these Italian babies like with do with bodykits for our S2000s ...

Hmmm thats sorta ugly unless yo have a very modern or industrial
looking home/kitchen. I'd hate to see the focal point of your new kitchen be a vent. I am sure you've been through these options but just in case, you can vent going down you could also replace your range with a Jen-air type that has a built in vent that also vents downward. Just some thoughts.

Just that purchasing a Jen-air type range also has relatively high associated costs as well. I'm kinda torn on this whole project from the get-go... My wife and I have lived in this house for 8 years now. But we're considering building a new home on about 10-20 acres (which would negate my interest in this kitchen project altogether). And if we were to move...I'd just as soon let "the next owner" enjoy the kitchen as-is, or remodel it as they see fit.

However...if we find that we cannot afford to build "our dream home" on "our dream land" [with our "dream" money ]...then I'll be investigating this remodelling consideration more closely.

Thanks to both of you for your offer & suggestion .

Have a happy new year!!!
