how did i miss this thread...i just had mine installed earlier this week. It makes your hood almost vertical when opened. great for working on the car. real easy install too.
Looks much better than the green TEIN ones.

The NRG ones are a bit longer and because of that, the cylinder gives more hydraulic lift. It may give more force when the hood is in the close position because of this.
This is what I was told by a NRG retailer that had them in his hand and was comparing/contrasting them to the "ebay Tein" dampners (non-green). He said the NRG ones were quite stiff that he'd think they may even cause "lift" on an authentic Mugen hood (which happens to be fairly stiff).
This is all hearsay, though...I have no real experience with these, sorry.

In the closed position the hood dampers are pushing backwards not up. That is why you can still drop close the hood once it is low enough.
The reason dampers are not recommended with CF hoods is that, from the full upright position, when you pull the hood down you are relying on the strength of the hood to force the damper in. As the damper mounts pretty low on the hood you are using the hood as a lever and they are worried a CF hood may not be strong and stiff enough.
