buyers always pay by paypal. Insurance for both parties.
But pay with a credit card and not a bank transfer. There have been numerous reports of paypal not doing much to help the victim out. The CC company has a much higher rate of helping out.

Thanks for adding.

He is a 3 star member but the minute he said that, i got sketched out and decided to sell to him.
that's DEFINITELY a scam attempt. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER accept Western Union. And Paypal does NOT take 5 days.

Agreed on the paypal.

Good notes listed in original, common sense helps, but this is great for guidance.

7. If skeptical, have the seller take a picture of the item with his/her username, date, and time. I know of a forum that requires this.
i wish this would become a rule for items $1k+ at the very least ...sure it would bring lots of negative feedback because some people are lazy to take pictures.

Oh, and for wheels. All 4 (or 2, or 7, whatever) wheels should have at least one picture where they are pictured together after a recent event.

be smart people. a buyer/seller feedback rating would help. team integra has one and its great. you can see it for each person. its kinda like ebay's feedback rating system. you can leave comments for each other after a transaction.

Its simply clarifying the elements of a contract. According to US law, there must be an AGREEMENT, CONSIDERATION, CAPACITY, and LEGALITY.

Agreement is an offer and acceptance
Consideration is legally sufficient "stuff" (money, goods, etc)
Capacity is the ability to conduct business (having title to the goods for sale, etc)
Legality is that there are no laws broken or anything contrary to public policy.

Generally, capacity and legality are givens, but the agreement and consideration is where problems arise on this board. I guess capacity is becoming more and more a problem with the internet.

Typically if you go to someone's house and buy the computer from there, they have possession and the title to that computer (the title not actually meaning a piece of paper like a car). On the internet though, a picture can be stolen and goods can be "made up" and the scammer takes money in a fraud situation.

Oh, and I like the agreement post idea alot.
not necessarily...you may be able to utilize the doctrines of promissory estoppel, unjust enrichment, and/or other equitable remedies available under the common law

sticky this thread!
