Searched around for you to find the answer and this is what HRE says about 285's on a 9.5" wheel
"That's pretty close... but what most people don't know is that a 19x9.5" wheel is really 10.5" wide overall.
The 9.5" meaurement is the tire industry standard, and it measures bead-seat to bead-seat dimension of the wheel- the tire companies are concerned with how the tire "beads-up" on the rim.
This dimension does not consider the bead flange thickness, typically 1/2" x two flanges (one towards the inside, one towards the outside of the wheel- the tire is mounted between them)- this gives you a 19x10.5 overall width.
That being said, a 9.5" is the minimum allowable wheel width for most 285 tires. A 10.0" is the 'optimal' width for most 285 tires.
It'll look a bit 'bulged out' on a 9.5", but it works.
