Dunlop ZII's? I just mounted mine a few weeks ago. I love them; they're super responsive, but I haven't really pushed them yet. I also put about 1000 miles on them in the past two weekends driving to Philly and NJ. I was caught in heavy, heavy downpours and the tires performed fine at highway speeds. Got them for $580 after rebates from TireRack. These are 17", btw.

As for budget tires, I only have experience with the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo. They were pretty good, though with the 16" tires, I felt the sidewalls were a bit too flexible. I did multiple track days last year + a few thousand miles of normal driving, and they still have 40-50% life left. No major complaints, especially at $280 for the set of 4.

Note that the Sumitomo ZIIIs (Z3) are much better rated than the ZIIs (Z2). Don't know why, but that's TireRack.

Is that your first set of ZIIs? Two years ago I was debating the Dunlops or Hankooks, and went with the RS3s.

Yep first set. I autocross like a crack addict so the zii was a better choice. The sumi would be quieter and better in the rain and most likely last longer on our car. I am on a mission this year to be faster so an extreme performance tire was more in line with my goals. If i was not autocrossing i would get pilot super sports. My rents are putting those on their S2K in the next week or so as it comes out of hibernation today.

I destroyed the oem tires that came with the car last year.

Should be a fun year with these.

Massive increase in traction!!!!

I went through the tire decision a few months ago. It came down to the Bridgestone RE-11A and the Dunlop ZII's. Ultimately I choose the RE11A's. Everything I read basically fit what I wanted/needed. Seemed like a lot of people were making the switch over from the ZII's. Also I heard that the ZII's make really odd noises when they get further along in their wear. I have yet to drive on the ZII's but I would love to be able to compare the two. Hopefully I'll run into some of you guys running them at an autox this year!
