so TIREd out.
I hate tire shopping because I am not one who has felt the difference between a great tire and a crap tire then be able justify the price.
I see there was a convo started about tires in the general chat but I was just shopping for tires now actually for the s2k.
I purchased 2 rear tires in June for my car, didn't put 1000 miles on them and they're showing the worst camber wear I've ever seen. My camber isnt even noticeable. On cords, already. And many of you know my car was out of commission for most of the summer. Ugh! I did purchase 4 tires from Walmart once for my winter beater, $210 for all 4 and they lasted 60,000. Go figure.
So lets discuss some of the cheapest best tires you've gotten.
Here's what Ive found today:
- $73 225/45/17 Sumitomos - Tire Rack
- $89 225/45/17 Dunlops - Tire Rack
- $79 245/45/17 Sumitomos - Tire Rack
- $67.98 225/45/17 Nankang - Discount Tire Direct
- $85 225/45/17 Falkens - Discount Tire Direct
- $71.97 225/45/17 Nankang - Discount Tire Direct
- $91 245/45/17 Falkens - Discount Tire Direct
I'll probably go with the Falkens. They were great on my 350z. Any other suggestions?

Tires are about the most important thing you buy for this car. If you drive the S leisurely you can get away with cheaper tires.
If you drive it like an S, as you should, you need good tires.
The best tire is the Michelin Pilot Super Sport. It is also a bit expensive ($698 for a set of 4, not including mounting) and was out of my price range when I bought tires. I bought a set of Kumho Ecsta LE ($350-400, they use them at Mid-Ohio), which I have found to be great tires, but the reviews have dropped a bit since I bought them. A great tire at a low price is the Sumitomo XTR Z3 ($354).
Another great mid-price tire is the Bridgestone S-04 Pole Position ($518). In any case, I would only recommend buying ALL FOUR tires, not the 2 you bought earlier this year. That can be a BIG handling problem.
My guess is you're a slow driver. Because if you really drove this car (say, 70+ mph on 2-lane country twisties), you would have seen the difference in tires. REALLY obvious. At 30-40 mph, not at all.

Lets get a little more into this and get 412xx the best bang for the buck tire she can get.
1. You need an alignment if you destroyed your rears in 1000 miles (unless you did donuts or oversteered every corner)
2. What type of driving do you do with your S? Daily Duties, Spirited, Auto Crossing, Low and Slow?
3. Do you intend to drive the car year round?
4. Do you plan on tracking/autocrossing/spirited driving in the coming season?
5. Your car is lowered correct?
Somewhat redundant question but I know that you have not had the vehicle a long time and may want to see where the limits are at an autocross event.

I definitely needed an alignment after I lowered the car. I was in a time crunch and didn't get the opportunity to have it done before a drive to OCMD and back. I did just have it aligned though, which is why I'm ready to purchase new tires.
My s2k is more of a daily, low and slow for the summer car. I'd love to take it out on the track once or twice next season, and realize that's when performance tires are key. I'd like something of moderate quality to get me around until then. I'll mount much better tires by checking out the track side of the forum as to not embarrass myself out there.
I'm buying all 4 relatively soon. I had one blow this summer and the fronts were pretty perfect so I just bought 2 rears.

Kumho Ecsta LE or Sumitomo XTR Z3
Is what I would recommend. Like RedOne stated they use the Kumho at the Honda driving school @ MidOhio on S2000s.
The Michelin Pilot Super Sport is the best street tire not in the EXTREME performance category that isn't that bad at all in the rain if you get caught in it.
Enjoy!

I've been using Pilot Super Sports for 2 years now, like them a lot. Good all around tire. Ride quality is good, they wear well & they corner extremely well. Had them on the track last year & did well (until I caught a bolt in the right rear). Lots of choices, everyone has their favorites & 2 cents.
Product Desc.- Michelin Pilot Super Sports
LOOKED AT THE THREAD AGAIN & SEE YOU DID ASK FOR cheapest! USUALLY YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR THOUGH.

I am going to be shopping very soon for new tires for the S2K. Leaning towards the HTR ZIIIs because of S-Cargos good luck with them but I may step up. After buying Winters for the Civic back in Nov. I have to get summers for the Civic and the S2K so its going to be a pricey spring....
