ideas on audio upgrade
So i was looking at doing that usa spec ipod input/controller - at a $150 from cructhfield it got to thinking maybe i should just do a new head unit.
alpine head unit $150
alpine ipod cable $25
modifry dci wired plus alpine harness $118
Any experience here with modifry?
Any thoughts?

yeah getting a new headunit is the better way to go.
i have modifry's IR dci for my nakamichi headunit. it works great and i love it.
and unless you want rear speakers eventually and plan on powering them with just the headunit, i would recommend getting an alpine unit that has an active crossover system built in so that you can use all four channels--two for the tweeters and two for the midbass drivers.

Please check out the "Electronic Forum". You will find tons of info on swapping the head unit. Just about everyone there agrees that our stock headunit sucks. You will find several stories of guys who tried to add speakers and amps to the stock unit only to find it only produced louder crappy sound. One of the best ways to improve you car's audio is to change the headunit.

Also, I agree with Dan's suggestion. I'm not sure what Alpine model you are looking at...but maybe consider stepping up a little. I may be wrong...but I'm pretty sure most of the higher end Alpine's have direct Ipod control. Again, check in the "Electronic Forum" for headunit S2K "sound expert" recommendations. Don't take advice from a guy who is use to listening to tunes on a Toyota "Super Tune-4 presets" AM/FM radio with two 4" paper cone speakers.

Watch when adding new unit's you may lose your remote volume switch. It can be a real pain opening your radio door to adjust the volume.

Just FYI, if you guys are referring to the controls to the left of the steering wheel... that's what modifry's dci is for...
