I was driving the Tahoe, I was doing 54 in a 40, I really wasn't paying attention to the speedometer when i saw his lights go off. and of course it was a bike cop.

The best radar detector I have ever seen, is the red lights on the tail of the cars in front of you.
<Common Sense Voice> If your speeding, you really should be paying attention. </CSV>

I have a radar detector (Escort.) My short experience has been that out of the dozen or so times I've been pulled over for speeding, a radar detector would have aided me only twice. I usually see a speed trap before my detector goes off. On the other hand, two speeding tickets would pay for a radar detector...I'm just saying it's far from foolproof.
I haven't gotten a ticket in the 1.5 years of having a detector (and some time before that, of course), but I think it's mostly due to driving more slowly. Having that black box go nuts twice during my daily drive reminds me to keep it slow.

I had a cheapy one... got it at bestbuy... when I worked there, had the discount... it just beeped randomly... but like you said, that helps to remind you to keep it slow...

My radio is too loud normally now to hear that... i cant even hear my turbo spool or the wastegate noises...
