Default Problem need help

Well after a great weekend with everyone at Barber! I was loading up the camp site and wife was assigned the S. She told me when I got home the car was running bad but I did not notice anything all weekend when I drove it so I did not think about it until today.

From what I have been able to identify with the codes, the car has had multiple misfires on cylinders 2&4. I pulled the plugs, they all look fine, sooty on the rim but electrodes are fine.

Who has spare coil packs that I can buy? The dealer wants 135.00 each! Anyone have experience with aftermarket stuff from Autozone, NAPA, ........?

I don't mind spending money if it is good, are the High output worth considering?

We have a AutoX this weekend and I would like to run it if possible.

Thanks,

Garry

Might try the WTB fourm, I have had good luck (and fast responses) there.

Well the issue is now narrowed down to number 4 cylinder not firing. The motor never overheated but it got hot enough to give the old coil packs the burnt electronics smell.
I have replaced coil packs, plugs and checked compression. The plugs were ok, the compression was 225,220,230,225.
Has anyone had the wires that go to the coil pack plug ever burn or short? That is what I think has happened. Is the coil pack harness a Section of the engine harness or would the entire harness need to be replaced. How Often has something like this happened?

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. I really do not want to start cutting into the wiring loom.

Thanks,
Garry

How are you checking for spark?

The engine harness is 1 piece. It does not have a separate section for the coil packs.

Holding coil pack with a known good plug and grounding it against a head bolt. #3 did fine when we checked it. #4 would not fire except when the ignition was turned off, kind of like a back fire. In addition the coil pack was very hot for #4.

Check for battery power at the black/yellow wire to all the coils, then check for any voltage on the black wire with the engine running.
