It depends on the situation, but as a general rule, skipping gears is not good.

Ugh. What about down-shifting? is that also bad for the car? ive read both ways. Also, take into account mine is FI now...

If your on the gas up shifting don't do it. If your down shifting don't do it, unless you rev match. Do you heel/toe and rev match? If you are doing that I don't see that you'll hurt anything.

Drained tranny fluid... no chunks or anything

changed that AND the diff. fluid.

glad to hear that. Was there a lot of metal in the used fluid? Not chunks but fine metal grit. How is 5th engaging now?
