HELP!
Well, today i was driving on the interstate and as i shifted into fifth(not going fast) somehow i grinded the gear(the clutch was in!!!). Shortly after that, i had one heckuva time getting it in 5th, and once i got it in, i had a heckuva time getting it back out. after a few more times of that(each time it getting easier to get in gear) it seemed to be back to normal.
When i stopped, however, i just ran through all the gears to see how they felt, and fifth feels pretty bad. I think the best way to put it is its... grainy, or rough.
Whats happening?

I would guess the synchroniser for 5th gear may have become peened.
I have seen photos of a 6th gear sync that was peened by repeatedly skipping 5th. The ends of the synchroniser become wider and eventually make engagement impossible...

how much would that cost to have replaced?
That info would be greatly appreciated, because if its too much then the money i set away for sesm will be used, keeping me from attending

Change the fluid and see how much metal comes out with the fluid. If its real bad it might give you an indication of much damage has been done. I'm afraid that a new tranny is going to be pretty expensive.
Get the AP2 trans with the better ratios if it comes down to that. I might buy your shot tranny if you want to recoup some of the cost. I hope it doesn't come down to that though. I think a new one is around $2000.
Let us know what you find out.

I'm guessing that you **** ed up the 5th gear syncro like everyone else said.
It will probably not get any worse. If you can live with it how it is then you're gonna be fine. Just dont expect it to get any better. My friend Todd had a screwed up 2nd gear synchro and the only way to get it in gear was to jam it in hard. ( This was a mustang) He drove it that way for about a year before getting rid of the car.
Edit: Depending on the damage done, it could very well get worse.
