Keeping Your S2000 Safe at Night

Many of us agree that the S2000 can be quite the head turner. That’s a good thing, right? Well, yes, for the most part. Unfortunately, it can also attract the wrong kind of attention from the wrong kind of people: thieves. As much as we hate to admit it, S2000 theft is on the rise. Don’t think it can’t happen to you because it can happen to any one of us, anywhere! If yours gets stolen and you don’t have comprehensive insurance coverage, you’ll be out of luck.

So aside from having a personal firearm handy and sleeping with one eye open, what are some things we can do, measures we can take, to protect our beloved S2000s?

Parking it outside overnight is just asking for trouble. It’s easy for a thief to walk up and slash the soft top to gain entry. Obviously, a garage generally keeps it out of sight from thieves and protects it from the elements and it helps to live in a safe area too. How some of you sleep at night without a garage for your S2000 is beyond me. Hardtops were once considered a good theft deterrent, but now, with hardtop prices on the incline, the hardtops themselves are highly sought after by thieves.

Car alarms have become somewhat affordable with many features such as proximity, tilt and shock sensors, two-way paging technology and GPS tracking. How about something as cheap and simple as a wireless motion detector/sensor from your local hardware store? You can place the motion sensor in the car and the receiver end near your bedside. Many insurance companies also offer a discount for properly alarmed cars. Fuel pump immobilizers and hidden kill switches can also help prevent easy vehicle theft, although they don’t protect removable items such as seats, stereos, and wheels.

We all know about wheel locks, but how about seat locks and hardtop latch locks? How many of us remember to lock the glove compartment to prevent easy access to the trunk?

Let’s all take steps to keep our S2000s safe. Maybe the theft rate will decline and therefore so will our insurance premiums.
