S2000 ‘Secret’ Compartment: Easter Egg or Common Knowledge?

By -

You may or may not know about this handy little storage bin inside the S2000, which is quite ingenious.

The S2000 isn’t exactly a new vehicle. Heck, it’s been around for 20 years now, as hard as that might be to believe. Still, those who love Honda’s excellent roadster are continuing to push the envelope. And that’s not just a testament to those who develop parts to expound on what’s already there. It’s also a nod to just how great a platform the S2000 is. What other car models can lay claim to this sort of enduring interest, years after disappearing from the earth? Not many, that’s for sure.

That’s why we were somewhat interested to stumble across this video from YouTuber Second Hand TV recently. Titled “Honda S2000 Secret Compartment,” we immediately wondered if there could possibly be something about the S2000 that we didn’t already know about. Surely there isn’t, right? We’ve poured over every detail on these cars for decades now, after all.

Turns out, this “secret” compartment is something that we knew about. And it’s likely something that you’re aware of, too. But there might just be a few folks out there who don’t, so that’s reason enough to take a closer look. This little bit of storage space is located in the interior, and might just come in handy given the S2000’s lack of stash spots there.

First, you’ll want to pop open the center storage bin, where the trunk release button is located. Obviously, there’s some storage space located right in here. But if you reach up under the lid located above that space, you’ll find that it opens as well. And inside there is a veritable treasure trove of additional space.

It’s a fairly deep section with a tray inside, so you can stash quite a bit of stuff in there. Hopefully legal stuff, of course. And it’s a nice use of what most other automakers might just render useless. Credit Honda for that little bit of ingenuity.

Granted, we realize that many of you are probably saying “duh” right now. But if there’s just a few people out there that thought this lid was permanently fixed trim and not the access to some handy storage space, well, this was all worth it.
