Final-year S2000 with 95 Miles Hits eBay in Berlina Black on Black
Never-registered S2000 has only 95 miles, will have you feeling ‘like it’s 2009 and you are in a Honda showroom.’
Honda S2000 fans had a rough time in 2009. The auto industry was in shambles, the Great Recession was nearing its official end (though it never felt like it), and their favorite rear-drive Honda roadster was about to be discontinued in June. New-car sales of the mean machine would occur in 2010 and 2011, but that was only from whatever inventory a given Honda dealership had left around.
Apparently, one was missed. We happened upon a never-registered 2009 AP2 example on eBay the other day, draped in the finest Berlina Black, and having only 95 miles on the odometer.
Offered up by Symbolic International in San Diego, California, the S2000 will have you feeling “like it’s 2009 and you are in a Honda showroom” across the street from the Circuit City going out of business next to the local bank now owned by a much bigger bank.
Under the hood, of course, is the AP2’s 2.2-liter inline-four paired with a six-speed manual. In its day, the motor delivered 237 horsepower to the rear 17×8.5-inch wheels. Judging by the condition and cleanliness of the inline-four, it likely still has 237 ponies waiting to thunder down the road, especially after a few new pieces are installed.
This S2000’s interior is just as amazing as the rest of the car, too. You simply can’t beat a black-on-black combo, especially if it’s Berlina Black over black leather. You also have an AM/FM stereo with a CD player, so you can hear your favorites from 2009 (like Static-X, CKY, and Jay-Z) through the eight-speaker system when you need a break from the glorious sounds of the 2.2-liter.
Looking at this S2000, it really does feel like a step back into the days of Barack Obama’s first year as President of the United States, the transition from analog to digital TV, and the passing of Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett on the same day. It definitely took a ton of effort to preserve this specimen of Honda history to the present day, and it shows.
Originally offered at an MSRP of $34,795 ($41,446.43 in 2019 dollars), the dealership will part with this wonderful S2000 AP2 for $149,000. That’s a lot of money for a rarity like this, but whoever does pay may give this Honda the exercise it deserves.
