YouTuber Takes S2000 Out for One Last Ride Before Parting Ways
After three years of ownership, YouTuber has gone as far as he could with the S2000 without going past ‘the point of no return.’
There’s nothing like having an S2000 in your life. Whether it’s the original AP1 or the upgraded AP2, the thrill and excitement of Honda’s greatest rear-drive roadster to date is a blessing upon any soul lucky enough to have one in their garage.
Part of S2000 ownership sometimes involves bestowing what once was yours upon another. This is the case for YouTuber Jason Fenske (a.k.a. Engineering Explained). In 2016, he bought a yellow 2002 AP1 to build into his dream ride on the channel. Today, it’s time for him to dream another dream, but not before an epic trip to the Indy 500 with a few friends.
“So, why would I be selling my S2000?” asks Fenske. “I’ve had it for almost three years now, and I feel like it’s simply run its course. I think it’s in the perfect spot where it’s at. I don’t think it needs additional modification, or it’s gonna start to take away from the drivability.”
Fenske says his S2000 received a supercharger to add 80 extra horsepower on top of the 2.0-liter inline-four’s 247 stock horses, but nearly everything else — from the ECU to the wheels and suspension — are still stock. He also added a titanium exhaust and a higher rear-end gear ratio, making for an excellent overall package documented over the course of 40 videos.
“I really don’t get that attached to cars,” says Fenske. “I love this thing. I think this is truly one of the greatest machines ever built. It is a phenomenal, phenomenal car, but I don’t get attached. I don’t miss my Integra, even though I loved that car, and I don’t think I’ll miss this S2000, either, even though I put a good amount of time and work into it, and certainly money, as well.”
“If I had to say what was my favorite memory with this S2000, it was putting in the supercharger with [Charles Sanville],” said Fenske. “It was so much fun. It was quite an experience learning a lot for me. That guy works superfast… Charles came over for a week. We spent that week in my garage and many parts stores for all the problems that pop up when you are working on a project… It was just so much fun.”
Whoever winds up with the S2000 next will have quite the machine on their hands, one ready to make more memories in the years to come.
