Modified S2000 Throws Down at Autocross Event

See, we told you that a well-prepped S2000 is a riot to autocross.

A few days ago, we showcased a forum member’s S2000 that they had listed for sale. It was a car built to be competitive in SCCA autocross, the motorsport of navigating impromptu cone courses as quickly as possible. Specifically, that S200 was prepped for the Street Touring Roadster (STR) class that the S2000 seems built to dominate. Now we return with video of another modified S2000 tearing up the sea of cones that is autocross, to further prove our point. This video comes from YouTube channel NAUS, a self-proclaimed “Honda Enthusiast holding it down for the east coast.” Rather curiously, they decided to just now release this video, which happened at a Northern New Jersey SCCA event, despite it taking place in March of this year. No matter.

This New Formula Red AP1 has a healthy mod list for STR duties. This includes Ohlins DFV coil-overs with 12K/10K spring rates; Hardrace offset ball joints; a Tanabe Medallion Touring catback exhaust with a Berk high-flow cat and, most importantly, a set of 17×9 +60 Enkei PF01 square setup with 255/40 Bridgestone RE71R tires. And, boy, does this setup work well.

In the video above, we see the NFR AP1 tearing the course up, and, surprisingly, the car is totally hooked up. The RE71R rubber keeping any AP1 snap oversteer issues at bay. Indeed, we were surprised to see a modified AP1 looking so tame, because, it has been our experience that AP1s can be a lot of…fun…at the limit.

Indeed, Mr. NAUS seems to have a good handle on the course and his car. This all makes us want to build another AP1. Well, off to the forums, we suppose.
