Random acts of kindness – What have you done for a fellow S owner lately
On the heels of Onehots2k’s inspiring story about Aquatic and the UMW community, I received a PM from one of our community organizers – 1FastS2K about how he was stranded and had another S2000 owner show up and go over and beyond the call of duty to help him.
In addition to that GateCrasher of the Central Texas S2000 Owners sent energetic (our moderator) a link to yet another story where yet another member helped out a stranger even though they’d never known each other.
These random acts of kindness represent how our love of our cars has grown to include a love for the community and to go out of one’s way to help the other. Without further ado, lets move on to what 1FastS2K had to say:
“About 3 days a month I drive out and all around SoCal doing collections and repairs on our vending machines out there. Times have been tough the last few years so we’ve been cutting back on “unnecessary bills” such as AAA so I generally make sure to throw my spare tire/jack in the trunk. Well this particular trip, I had a lot of tools and parts to bring so of course there was no room in my trunk for my spare, only my slime and mini air compressor.
It was around 3AM and it had been a long day of driving around LA and I was finally heading to my hotel to get some sleep before another long day of driving. I don’t know if I was just tired and not paying attention, but I ran over someones trailer hitch ball. Realizing what had happened, I took the next exit off of the 57S (Via Verde exit I think) and stopped at the closed gas station to check the situation out. The tire was blown along with a huge dent in the middle of the barrel of the wheel. There was no way my little bottle of slime was going to fix that.
I sat there for about 10 minutes trying to figure out what I was going to do. I was still about 40 miles from my hotel so there was no way I was going to be able to drive the car that far and there didn’t seem to be any businesses open on the particular exit that I pulled off on. I was tired and frustrated.
There was no one on this road, it was like a ghost town. Then I heard it. Brrrraaahhh, someone with exhaust. I look around the corner and onto the main road and I see 2 bouncing projector HIDs. I thought, “no way, is that another S2k?” Sure enough, it was so I flagged him down.
It was a white S2k with a Cwest front bumper driven by a guy with his buddy. They stopped and I explained the situation and asked if I could borrow his spare swearing that I would ship it back to him. He said “sure no problem” and I proceeded to remove my damaged wheel. He pulled his spare and tools out and it was then that we realized he had the wrong spare. He explained that he had recently purchased the car and hadn’t checked the spare out yet and apologized.
What happened next blew me away. He called AAA and had the flatbed come pick me up to tow me to my hotel all under his AAA account then sat and waited for the tow truck to get there. I never got the guys full name, but I don’t know if he’ll ever really know how much I appreciated what he did.”
Now here is the other incident that GateCrasher PMed us about. Turns out that one of our members 1point3 to 2point2 was stranded on the freeway and then (in his own words): “My tire blew on 1604 on the freeway and he stopped to help me. He brought me a water and let me use his jack never met or talked to him before but seemed really nice especially since he helped random s2k brethren.” The person he was referring to is acus2k, another member of our community.
These random acts of kindness towards strangers are an inspiration. We don’t even know if the person that helped 1FastS2K is a forum member but given the situation that both people mentioned above were stranded in, the arrival of help in an S2000 was a god send. Perhaps we are all our brothers (or sisters) keepers. That said, What have you done for someone in the community lately? We wanna hear it from you guys 🙂

Tip of the hat to GateCrasher, 1FastS2K, acus2k, 1point3 to 2point2 and the random stranger in a Grand Prix White S2000 🙂
