Formula Drift: Exciting ‘til the Last Race

On June 5th, fans at Wall Stadium in New Jersey were treated to awesome competition on what turned out to be a great day for drifting. Coming into this event, the two atop the leader boards were Vaughn Gittin Jr. in first and Daijiro Yoshihara in second.

These two did not fail to disappoint, as they made it all the way to finals to face off for the top spot on the podium for the second event in a row. This final matchup was very close, with bumper to bumper racing throughout the entire course.

After the smoke cleared and the judges put in their final votes, Yoshihara and his Discount Tire Direct S13 came out as the victor to earn his second straight first place win. This gave Gittin and his 2011 Falken Mustang their second straight second place finish and his third straight finish in the top two.

The battle for the third place was a great competition between Tanner Foust and Darren McNamara. They were neck and neck and it looked as it would have to have more races to decide the victor until McNamara clipped Foust’s quarter panel just feet from the finish line to give Foust in his Rockstar Scion tC the victory for the final spot on the podium. This moved him up from 4th in the standings to 3rd and moved McNamara from 7th to 5th.

This event was a great event to attend with plenty to do in the paddock area with vendors selling everything from shirts to clutches to racing seats.

There was also a competition to get the fastest lap in Need For Speed Shift and a demonstration on drifting remote control cars. Overall, it was a great day full of excitement and we got some great pictures for you to enjoy.
