S2K Challenge Series: Buttonwillow Raceway
Article by Edward Lee (600rr_rocket)
We now nearing the halfway point in the 2009 S2K Challenge Series and just wrapped up our 5th event at Buttonwillow Raceway. As the most popular track amongst S2K track junkies in SoCal, the turnaround was strong as expected.
The weather this time around was night and day compared to our first event at Buttonwillow. At S2K Challenge #1, drivers braved rain, thick fog, and 51 degree weather. Today, unseasonably warm weather (high of 92F) resulted in less-than-favorable hot and greasy conditions.
Fastest lap times were set for most in the morning, and by the afternoon…it was slip/spin city. Due to the crowded track conditions, Speedventures decided that participants’ best lap time during the day (excluding the first and last sessions) would count toward the day’s standings. At the end of the day, the times were sorted and tallied, and an awards ceremony was held. Congratulations to all the winners!!! A breakdown of the event results:
