Default buy Evo8 or S2000?

I'll be in the market for a new ride this Christmas, in the 30k or less range. The Evo8 and S2000 are my top contenders as of now. Both cars have their advantages/disadvantages, but the Evo8 seems to outdo the S2000 in every category! except that of convertibility, weight, and looks. I know its comparing apples to oranges, but at my age, it doesn't matter and I'm flexible (I haven't experienced enough cars to have a certain preference).

Problem is, if I was presented this question 2yrs ago, I'd definitely go with the Evo8, hands down. It was only recently that I got excited about the Evo8. If I went this route, I'd face problems of first year run, insurance costs for turbo car?, and an ugly shell.

As for the S2000, I've kept up with every detail about it for over a year and a half now, and it's very hard to budge me. I have pretty much "lived" this car through you guys. If I bought this, I'd face problems of no practicality, no space, unforgiving nature, high insurance costs for convertible sports, theft attraction (no garage), and low tuneability.

What would you guys get and why? Can any Evo8 owners shine the light on this new car? Any major problems so far? In general, is it cheaper to insure the S2000 or Evo8?

You might be surprised about insurance. Let me give you my example. I own three cars. A 98 Eclipse GS, non-turbo, by the books, and a new 2004 WRX. Well for the WRX I pay only $71 more total per 6 months. So owning a new car with turbo isn't exactly an issue to my insurance cost. But if I were to guess a roadster vs awd in the books, I think the S2000 would be more to insure. Also, I have never heard of new S2000 for under $32k. The Evo is invoice low $28k and should be around $29k without the rediculous mark-ups. However both great cars in thier class. You just have to decide where you want to fit in...

Will that mean it's been perfected then? So I have to expect first year issues? But yea...I still can't get over the Evo's ugliness, its biggest drawback.

Insurance will always be dependent on too many variables, but I'm betting the S2000 is more expensive. The S2000 just has everything necessary to crank the costs up--2door, convertible, rare sports car. Gotta remember I'm a 21yr old guy too, with a clean driving record (thank god).

Many people on this board have gotten their S2000 for under 30k. Plus, when the time comes, my dad's friend (internet manager at a dealer) told me he will hook me up with a good price (sorry, can't say yet). So they're both roughly the same price to me, come winter, when car sales plummett.

if you can't get over the evo's ugliness then why are you even asking. Do you want to have a car that can spank ANYthing on the track, or do you want a car that has good handling, but has a higher chill factor. That's what it comes down to. The EVO wasn't made for people who "can't get over its ugly looks." It is a 100% compromise for all-out performance....and I do mean all-out. The EVO will never bite you in the ass, it is the most predictable and driver-responsive car I have ever driven, period. If you wanna have fun with the S2000 you better know what the hell you're doing, or you're gonna snap yourself into a tree. The EVO on the other hand can be driven hard, and inspires confidence in the driver....it NEVER keeps you guessing. Where as in the S2000 you're thinking to yourself.....where is the limit, am I gonna hit it soo......OH SHIT THERE GOES THE BACK END.

Just remember they are in two different leagues....you don't ever see the S2000 being compared to Vipers, Z06s, 03 Cobras. An EVO with under $1,000 in mods will get you running low 12s, and you'll have a nice AWD system to make sure you'll never have a problem putting down the power to the ground. Combine this with the amazing chassis and suspension and brembo brakes, and an EVO running low 12s is easily trackable, in fact it would be an absolute track terror.....whereas if you do something like turbo an s2000 to get it running low 12s.....good luck with it on the track!

Performance vs. chill factor....what do you want?
