Default Keep an eye out for a new vehicle theft ring

Just found out from the apt manager that visited the Sunnyvale police, 28 cars were picked up from Cherry Orchard, a gated community.

They haven't caught anyone from the ring yet, but this is getting ridiculous. They had picked up 5 Camrys from our lot just a couple weeks ago, of course no apartment manager announces this to the rest of the community because they are afraid of tenants running off. That logic is invalid, having 28 families announcing it for them to their neighbors is much worse than a warning letter to keep an eye out. She's agreed and is putting together a community letter.

Please.. these guys are smart, quick, and probably a travelling ring, don't know which town they will hit next, but 28 cars in one night represents quite a membership in this ring.

As some of you know, my Berlina S was picked off last week, so I am a bit sensitive to this continuing to spread to other communities and members. I'm following some leads.. I'll keep that thread updated if anything comes through.

Cherry Orchard is an Irvine Comp complex. I'd be surprise if they built a luxury apt complex and not install security cameras in the garage or their parking lot. Not just for a car theft/vandalism standpoint, but for tenant safety as well.

Either way, it's sad to see 28 cars get picked up like that and no one saw anything? no camera footage? No security patrol to notice something unusual? Cars had to have been picked in the middle of the night.. doing it earlier would have people coming and going still and wouldn't it be weird that 28 cars are leaving in the middle of the night??

Since they are of prestigious reputation; I would recommend for them to reevaluate their security & hire an actual onsite security gaurd(s) (24-7).

Having a physical person onsite is one of the best theft deterrents a site can have.
