New Driving Penalities in Virginia
HOPE THIS IS NOT A REPOST...
Effective July 1, in the wonderful Commonwealth of Virginia, any traffic ticket, with the exception of regular speeding, will carry heavy civil penalties in addition to the fine and court costs that you will already have to pay.
Here are just a few...
Driving on a suspended or revoked permit - Civil penalty $750.00 + the court cost & fines
Reckless Driving - Civil penalty $1,050.00 + the court cost & fines
DUI - 1st offense - Civil penalty $2,250.00 + the court cost & fines
Failure to give proper signal - Civil penalty $1,050.00 + the court cost & fines
Leaving the scene of an accident - Civil penalty $3,000.00 + the court cost & fines
This is the website that lists the offenses and how much each civil penalty is. It gives the breakdowns of installments that the state will allow, etc.

Be careful when you drive!!

I suppose I would support every one of those... except the heavy fine for failure to give proper signal. $1k for forgetting to put on your blinker while changing lanes? What a crock!

holy damn....
those fees can't be given until the first of July, but still. It says the fees can not be reduced in court either...so if you get it....you get it. It also only applies to VA residents. So yea...you MD guys can feel free to haul ass through here and cause as many accidents as you want. I hope this is a joke. $350 a year for 3 years for speeding.... $1,000/yr for 3 years for racing....

Keep in mind these are civil charges. That isn't including the cost of the additional fine.
So if you get a reckless driving ticket. You're still subject to $2500 (max) fine plus the civil penalty charge ($1050).
Holy crap, VA is gettig greedy. Maybe I am glad to be out of the States!

I havent been around since January, but I figured something like this would cause a ruckus on the news somewhere. Has anyone heard about this on the news? I'm just curious.
